There are many benefits for students that take the ECE II B, Child Care Lab class. These help the students and the children they care for now and in the future.
- Students learn that not all children develop at the same rate or in the same way. There are various stages of development within children of the same age. They learn that children grow socially, cognitively, physically and emotional in an ever changing world.
- Students learn how to deal with children with different temperaments. When you say “no” to children you will get various responses; one will be simple stop, one will cry, one will throw a fit on the floor, one will ignore you and do it anyway, one will throw things, and other responses to the same “no”. They learn what techniques can be use and that not all will respond to the same technique.
- Students learn to understand that children learn through play. Students learn how to use various play equipment that is developmental appropriate for different age groups that is available to them. They learn reasons equipment should be changed frequently to keep interest and basic equipment to have available at all times.
- Students learn to work with children in multi-age groups at the same time. They learn how to interact with children of all ages and abilities. They learn how to change an activity to fit the different children’s abilities. Students see the different learning styles of children and how to help them learn.
- Students learn how to play and do activities with children. They learn the importance of activities that are education based for different leaning areas. They learn ways to help children clean up that is fun and meaningful.
- Students learn where their personal tolerance level is to various situations. They learn what things to do when they have reached that limit, so as to not hurt children. When a child can’t be consoled, that it is Okay to ask for help, put the child in a safe place and to take a break. Many Shaken Baby situations can be prevented by teaching the students how to deal with their tolerance level.
- Students learn how to conduct and plan activities for ten different learning areas such as: Fine motor, Gross Motor, Sensory/Science, Mathematics, Language/Literacy, Self-Concept, Emotional, Creative Art, Dramatic Play and Music. Students learn how to conduct a meaningful Circle Time.
- Students learn State Licensing Rules, the reasons behind the rules, and to put them into practice.
- Students are given the opportunity to earn their CDA Credential while in High School in either the Infant/Toddler area or the Preschool area. They are given the opportunity to put into action what they have learned through education.
- Students can have fun while working with children and feel of their special personalities, while doing something meaningful and exciting. Students are mentored to become the quality caregivers of the future.
